Nigerian Army Wings 22 Pilots, Certified Maintenance Engineers As Chief of Army Staff Declares 2024 COAS Conference Closed

In order to strengthen the professionalism and combat readiness, of the Nigerian Army, 22 qualified officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army Aviation Corps have been winged as pilots and certified maintenance engineers. 

The winging was performed by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede on Wednesday 18th December 2024 during the closing ceremony of the COAS Annual Conference, at the Command Officer's Mess, Abuja.
The COAS confirms that their certification is to fly and maintain the Berakta TV-2 drones in the Nigerian Army inventory while describing the winging as a moral booster to operations.

This is in keeping with the drive of the Nigerian Army to strengthen its professional capacity and combat readiness while standing on the pillars of the Chief of Army Staff's command philosophy. 

According to the Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army will boost its invest in modern technology, innovative solutions, specialised training to tackle terrorism and other emerging security threats in the country. 

"The Nigerian Army is evolving strategy to defeat terrorism, banditry, secessionist agitations and violent extremism in the country as it deploys technological solutions in tackling current security challenges"


The COAS said there are plans to strengthen the capacity of the Force with procurement of additional unmanned aerial systems in the coming year to enhance combat readiness and operational effectiveness in all theatres of operations. 

General Oluyede Emphasized that he intends to further efforts made the late Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja in the area of housing, by providing affordable accommodation for the personnel of the Nigerian Army. 

He said their deliberations during the conference revolved around issues such as administration, training, operations of the Nigerian Army particularly on innovative strategies to confront and defeat terrorism, banditry, amongst other violent extremism that threaten the peaceful existence of Nigeria. 

He said in investing more on technology and innovation, the Nigerian Army will promote realistic and focused training throughout the force and conduct a thorough review of the Army’s specialised training and operations to achieve the desired victory, since training directly influences operational outcomes" 


To this end, the COAS stressed "I have directed that our best be posted to our training schools to drive our professional and military education and produce well-trained personnel with the requisite skill set to meet the demands of the current and future operations"
