Adefaye Adekunle Oluwafikunayomi Emerge Winner of COAS Literary Competition 2025, Clains Star Price

Winners have emerged in the 2025 edition of the Nigerian Army (NA) annual Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Literary Competition. 


Amongst the secondary schools within 2 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), that participated in the 2025 competition, Adefaye Adekunle Oluwafikunayomi, a senior secondary ll student of Leadcity High School, Jericho, Ibadan, finished 1st position in the Arts category of the competition. 

A statement by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 2 Division Nigerian Army Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye said the competition which was held in June 2025 featured secondary schools students across the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria. 


The NA presented him a cash price award of Six Hundred Thousand Naira (#600,000.00) only on 25 June 2025, at Headquarters (HQ) 2 Division NA in Ibadan.
 
The competition was aimed at discovering the different potentials and skills of students, thereby, availing them the opportunity to compete favourably amongst themselves. 


The Nigerian Army uses the exercise as a medium to encourage healthy competition amongst students, while identifying their hidden talents and potentials for the overall benefit and development of the country.

Speaking during the award presentation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division NA, Major General Obinna Onubogu, who was represented by the Chief of Staff (COS) HQ 2 Division NA, Brigadier General MI Falana, noted that the literary competition was an initiative of the NA which is aimed at sustaining effective Civil Military Relationship with the heterogeneous publics of the NA, while leveraging on the potentials towards achieving wide range military objectives.


He expressed delight with the fact that a student within the Division emerged tops in one of the major competing categories. He also congratulated the winner, Adefaye Adekunle Oluwafikunayomi, while urging him to maintain the tempo for greater success in future competitions. 

"On behalf of the COAS, I congratulate you on your excellent performance; but however, you must remain focused, studious, and diligent to sustain commitment in your studies moving forward"


The GOC, also expressed gratitude to the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, NAM, for his magnanimity in providing the necessary support through the competition to spur students towards developing the right mindset for academic excellence. 

One of Adekunle's teachers, Mr Lawrence Olusegun Edessy, and the school coordinator, Mrs Ruth Akinwoye, accompanied him to the event. They both described Adekunle, as an honest, discipline and hardworking student; and affirmed he is well articulated, and desires to be challenged.


Also at the event was Adekunle's mother, Mrs Gbenga Francis Adefaye, who delivered vote of thanks on behalf of the Adefaye family. She expressed gratitude to the NA for recognizing and awarding their son, Adekunle; adding that the competition has instilled in him a sense of pride and responsibility. 

"We are overwhelmed with joy and pride, and we sincerely appreciate the efforts of NA to nurture and encourage young talents through this competition", Mrs Adefaye added. She equally thanked the management and staff of Leadcity High School for their unwavering support and encouragement towards grooming young talents for future gains.


The award recipient, Adefaye Adekunle Oluwafikunayomi, said he was grateful to the NA for availing him the opportunity to participate in the literary competition. He added that he particularly appreciates the NA for its continued efforts to keep Nigeria safe.
