COAS Unveils Modern 8 Division Headquarters Complex in Sokoto

A significant milestone was achieved as the Nigerian Army inaugurated the newly constructed 8 Division Headquarters Complex at Giginya Barracks in Sokoto, located in the North West region of Nigeria.

The auspicious inauguration was presided over by Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Nigerian Army, on Monday, August 14, 2023.

In an official statement released by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the COAS extended his congratulations to the officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of the Division for the remarkable Divisional Headquarters building, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to foster a conducive working environment.

He emphasized the importance of proper maintenance of the facility and called on the Division's personnel to maximize the conducive atmosphere to achieve optimal productivity, thus justifying the substantial investment in the infrastructure.

Assuring unwavering support, the COAS reiterated his commitment to assisting the Division in overcoming security challenges within its operational jurisdiction.

Addressing the troops, the COAS stressed the significance of professionalism in the discharge of their constitutional duties. He affirmed the Army Headquarters' steadfast dedication to providing necessary resources to enhance the execution of operational tasks.

During his visit to the Sokoto Government House, the COAS expressed his appreciation for the favorable disposition of the Sokoto state government and its citizens towards the Nigerian Army and its operations.

He acknowledged and thanked the Sokoto State Government for its immense support during the establishment of the 8 Division in Sokoto, while assuring the Governor of the Nigerian Army's relentless collaboration with other services and security agencies to address security challenges in Sokoto and its neighboring states.

He earnestly sought continued support and partnership from the government and people of Sokoto to bolster troop confidence and operational efficiency.

In response, the Sokoto State Governor, Alh (Dr) Aliyu Ahmed Sokoto, praised the COAS for selecting Sokoto for his inaugural operational visit since taking office. He noted that this visit would provide firsthand insights into the troops' requirements and challenges, ultimately motivating them to execute their duties with heightened professionalism.

The Governor commended the troops for their efforts in combating banditry within the state and pledged the government's full support to assist the troops alongside other security agencies in addressing insecurity.

At the Palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, the COAS expressed gratitude to the Sultan for his instrumental role in promoting peace throughout the nation.

He also commended the Sultan for bestowing honors upon the immediate past COAS, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, including a grand reception and the traditional title of Zarumai Sokoto. General Lagbaja regarded this recognition as an honor for the entire Nigerian Army and acknowledged the Sultan's pivotal role as a peace advocate. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army's commitment to seeking the Sultan's support and that of the entire traditional institution.

The Sultan expressed his delight at the COAS's visit and urged all Nigerian Army officers and soldiers to wholeheartedly support the COAS's efforts in fulfilling the constitutional responsibilities of the Nigerian Army. He emphasized loyalty and accountability to the nation as paramount for all personnel.
