The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa says prayers have been the spiritual backing behind the successes of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) as he appealled to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) not to relent on its prayers to the nation and AFN in particular.
In a statement by the Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau said the CDS stated this when the leadership of CAN, led by it's President His Eminence, Most Reverend Daniel Okoh paid him a visit at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
The CDS further called for righteous deeds and action among Nigerians to help overcome the security challenges faced by the nation.
The Defence Chief stressed that the mandate of the Armed Forces of Nigeria is to protect all Nigerians inrespective of any religious belief, as he assured the association of his commitment to meaningful interactions to bring lasting peace to Nigeria.
The CAN President, Reverend Daniel Okoh speaking earlier said the visit was to reciprocate similar gesture by the CDS to the Association's Headquarters few months ago which has yielded many fruitful results.
He pointed out that the CDS gesture has given CAN a further sense of belonging and created more understanding towards combating the menace of insecurity.
Dr Okoh also said the CDS visit has helped to bridge the gap existing amongst the Christian Communities, "we need peace, without peace we can not pursue any developmental projects and we need peace to move forward".
He assured the CDS that the Church has seen significant progress in the fight against criminality in the country under his watch as the Chief of Defence Staff.
