The leadership change follows the election of Maj Gen Hussaini A. Saliu (Rtd) during the Annual General Meeting and National Convention of the association held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Leadership transition and institutional continuity

In a statement announcing the transition, the association disclosed that the formal handing and taking over ceremony between the outgoing National President, Maj Gen Abdulhafeez G. Adewuyi (Rtd), and the newly elected National President will take place on Thursday, 11 June 2026, in Abuja.

The ceremony reflects RANAO’s established tradition of orderly succession and institutional stability, as the association moves into another phase of leadership focused on advancing the interests of retired military officers.

Beyond welfare: veterans and national development

The emergence of the new National President comes at a time when veterans’ organisations continue to play an expanding role in discussions around security policy, national service, institutional memory and the welfare of former personnel.

RANAO’s leadership transition signals a renewed emphasis on strengthening the connection between retired officers’ experience and broader national development efforts, particularly in areas requiring security expertise and strategic insight.

A new administration for veterans’ affairs

The incoming administration is expected to build on the association’s mandate of promoting the welfare of retired Army, Navy and Air Force officers while deepening its contributions to veterans’ affairs and national security discourse.

The event, scheduled for the RANAO National Secretariat opposite Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess, Asokoro District, Abuja, will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to witness the formal transfer of leadership responsibilities.

Media organisations have been invited to cover the ceremony, with nominated reporters expected to contact the association’s National Publicity Secretary for accreditation and further details.
