The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has scheduled 28 and 29 October 2026 for formal proceedings in the ₦1.5 billion defamation lawsuit instituted by former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General (Dr) Faruk Yahaya (rtd).
Desk: Legal & Judiciary
Date: 23 October 2026
Time: 21:55 WAT
Location: Abuja, Nigeria
The legal action targets retired Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi, Arise Broadcasting Limited, and Sahara Reporters Media Group Inc under suit number CV/132/26 before FCT High Court No. 2, Abuja.
Originally filed on 14 January 2026, the lawsuit seeks formal retractions, public unreserved apologies, and monetary damages totaling ₦1.5 billion and ₦600 million respectively from the co-defendants as outlined in the Writ of Summons.
According to a statement issued by Brigadier General Kukasheka Usman (rtd) on behalf of Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya (rtd), the court previously granted an order for substituted service on 17 March 2026. Under the judicial order, court bailiffs were authorized to serve originating court processes via national newspaper publication circulating within the FCT and physical pasting at the last known addresses of the defendants.
Lead counsel to Lieutenant General Yahaya, Mohammed Ndayako, SAN, confirmed that the substituted service order became necessary following deliberate evasion by the primary defendant.
Counsel specifically noted that retired Major General Ali-Keffi declined to accept service at his documented post-retirement residence in Kurudu, Abuja, necessitating the court-sanctioned alternative service measures ahead of the scheduled October hearings.
