Strenghtening Collaborations With Arms Bearing Agencies: NCCSALW Coordinator Visits IGP Egbeteku, Discuss Areas of Support

The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) is strenghtening Collaborations with the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and other arms bearing agencies of government for effective identitification of drivers of insecurity, including but not limited to availability of illicit arms.

The Coordinator, National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo retired held the discussions when he led members of his team on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters Abuja.
He acknowledged the contributions of the Nigerian police to the journey of the centre so far and expressing appreciation to the Inspector General of Police. 

He said the centre has had support since it's establishment and calls for greater support especially to help the centre get rid of identified illegal agencies that covertly duplicate duties of the centre comouflaging as agencies for control of small arms.
DCP Johnson said illegal small Arms is a major driver of insecurity in the country therefore the centre needs the support of the Nigerian Police while calling for strenghtening of collaborations between the two organizations.

"The Nigerian Police is highly dependable when it comes to intellegence gathering, therefore we need their suport in areas if intelligence gathering, stopping illegal possession of firearms, generation of national data and analysis of it for the Control of firearms, small arms and light weapons"
"The Centre has a national data centre where we collate data of recovery by all agencies of government, aside collating data, we go further to investigate the sources of the weapons, we need your assistance in this regard which will tremendously push the fight to the criminals" stated the Coordinator.

"We want collaborations in the area of capacity building workshops, trainings, and arms destruction exercise, partnership with the training department of the police"
DCP Johnson equally appeal for the centre to be involved in the process of investigation of cases of recovered small arms and light weapons while calling for promotion of public Awareness. 

The inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun while responding assured the coordinator of the copperation of the Force Headquarters stressing that the Nigerian Police Force has no choice than to work with the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
He acknowledged the critical role of the centre in curbing violence in Nigeria and admits that the availability of small arms in the wrong hands has given life to banditry, kidnapping and all kinds of crimes and vices in the society.

He therefore pledged the support of the Police in the areas of intelligence sharing, operationas that lead to recovery of arms and tracing of sources of the arms as well as training of the personnel of the centre.
