Senator Ned Nwoko Expresses Confidence in Nigeria's Capacity to Attain Self Reliance, Rewards Innovators @ DICON Conference


A member of the Senate Defence Committee, Senator Ned Nwoko has expressed confidence in Nigeria's ability to attain self reliance, stressing that the country has the capacity, resourcefulness and the manpower to produce anything that is needed to thrive in Nigeria. 

He stated this during an interview on the sideline of the just concluded 60th Anniversary Celebration of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria DICON and the Maiden Africa Defence Industries Conference 2024 in Abuja. 
Senator Ned Nwoko said Nigeria can be able to produce and compete with other countries in the world with commitment to encouraging local production of what is needed not just in the Defence sector but other sectors of the economy.

"I belive that we should stop importation of goods in Nigeria, we must encourage local industries to grow. We need an economy that works for everybody, Nigeria is a country that is so blessed with natural and human resources, all we need is good leadership and follwership"

"I just hope that we are able to encourage DICON to focus on Local production and manufacturing in every sector that's what it is all for me" stated Senator Nwoko.
Speaking the the issue of illicit arms and light weapons, Senator Nwoko acknowledged that Nigeria's border policing is very poorous, the nation must do its best to prevent illegal arms from getting into the land.

On the solutions for the state of insecurity Nigeria has witnessed over the years, the senator advocated for social justice, dialogue among different groups and giving citizens a sense of belonging in thier fatherland.

He emphasized that dialogue is very important in resolving conflicts and grievance that people may have incurred over time, while calling for more platforms that bring people together, giving them a sense of belonging and creating an environment where their voices can be heard.
