Chief of Defence Staff Assesses Security Readiness Ahead of Edo State Election

In order to assess the level of readiness of members of the Armed Forces and Security agencies for the governorship election in Edo State on Saturday, 21st September, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa arrived the State capital amd met with the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki. 

Speaking during the visit, the Chief of Defence Staff assured the Governor of an enabling environment for Edo people to come out and vote for their candidate of choice. 
A statement by the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau said the Chief of Defence Staff warned that any person with intention other than peaceful election should leave the state or bear the consequences of the law. 

He reiterated the fact that the "Armed Forces will not accept any individual carrying arms and weapons of any kind, and emphasised that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the military the mandate to ensure the most peaceful election in the history of the state, a directive the Armed Forces intend to carty out effectively. 
He called on all Edo citizens to come out en mass and vote the candidate of their choice while guaranteeing their security with the Nigerian Police as lead agency for general security while the military back them up. 

The Defence Chief charged members of the Armed Forces to be professional before, during and after the election reminding the troops of the availability of standby court marshal to instantly try erring personnel. 

The governor of the state, Mr Godwin Obaseki, appreciated the CDS for visiting Edo state describing the visit as reassuring. He noted that the General officer Commanding 2 division and other military personnel have been amazingly supportive in terms of providing security for the state. 
According to the Governor, Edo state election is strategically important to national security as he reassured the CDS of continuous support to the Armed Forces and other security agencies to improve security in Edo. 

Earlier, while addressing critical stake holders, General Musa said the entire world is watching, calling on stake holders to create an enabling environment for the people of the state to cast their votes freely. 

He however warned that additional security devices have been deployed to watch security agencies involved in the election.
