The Comptroller-General of Customs is Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has emphasized the security agencies’ commitment to the mandate of the Strategic Communications Interagency Policy Committee that is aimed at strengthening the overall security architecture of the country.
CG Adewale Adeniyi stated this while addressing Journalists at the monthly briefing of the Strategic Communications Interagency Policy Committee, under the coordination of the office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), hosted by the Nigerian Customs Service in Abuja Nigeria's Capital.
According to CG Adeniyi, the security agencies draw strength from each other in carrying out various operations geared towards enhancing national security.
"this is that forum which recognises the strength and the complimentarity of all our security agencies when they work together, drawing strength from one another, approaching issues from the perspective of all working for one national goal which is enhancing our national security" stated the CG. Customs.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) National Public Relations Officer (PRO), Abdullahi Maiwada who read the briefing compiled by the security and response agencies said the customs has been working tirelessly to suppress illegal arms, smuggling which are higher in priority list over trade facilitation.
He revealed that in view of the threads from bother that are as a result of illegal movement of arms and smuggling of other illicit products, the Nigerian Customs will soon be recieving first set of scanners geared towards moving to the non-intrusive inspection technology which was facilitated by the recent trip of the Controller General to China.

The NCS PRO in recaping the operations within the past month said the service collected ₦277.5 billion in import duties and ₦15.8 billion in excise duties, reflecting its commitment to revenue maximization.
"The NCS also intensified its "Operation Whirlwind" (OPWW) to combat the smuggling of petroleum products, especially in border states over the last month which led to the interception of seven PMS trucks, the sealing of 12 retail outlets, and the seizure of 466,000 liters of PMS and 23 vehicles"
POLICE/PROTEST
Also the Nigerian Police Force said in the aftermath of the End Bad Governance protest, foreign nationals allegedly involved in a plot to destabilize the Nigerian government are still on the wanted list announcing that thete is a reward for anyone who has information on their whereabout.
The Police spokesman, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Olumuyiwa Adejobi who stated this while reacting to questions from journalists at the briefing also stated that coordinated efforts by the police and security agencies led to the arrest of nine suspects involved in a plot to destabilize the government, notable among them is Andrew Whynne, a British national, and Lucky Ehis Obiyan who were declared wanted for their alleged roles in terrorism financing.
According to him, during the nationwide ‘End Bad Governance in Nigeria’ protest, which spanned from August 1st to 10th led to arrest of a total of 873 individuals across several states in connection with various criminal activities such as armed robbery, arson, and vandalism, including Kano, Jigawa, FCT, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto, Yobe, Borno, Edo, and Gombe.
CORRECTIONAL SERVICE-PRISONS
The spokesperson for the Correctional Centre, Abubakar Umar while fielding questions on issue of alleged poor feeding of inmates said the minister of interior orderd an investigation into the matter and the outcome will be disclosed to the public.
He also revealed that the government has increased the feeding allowance of inmates to 50 % from August 2024 and the rehabilitation programme of the custodial service has given birth to exceptional inmates who have acquired degrees and higher degrees of learning.
