Sexual Harrasment: Nigerian Army Absolved Colonel IB Abdulkareem Any Wrong Doing Following Probe

The Nigerian Army says it has absolved Colonel Ishaku Abdulkareem of any wrong doing after thorough investigation and probe into the case of former Nigeria Army Personnel, Ex-Private Ogunleye Ruth who cried for help on viral social media video alleging abuse by the Superior Officer.

Briefing the media on Tuesday 24th September 2024 at the Army Headquarters Abuja on the outcome of the probe cartoed out by the Nigerian Army, the Director of Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the investigation concluded that Colonel IB Abdulkareem did not commit the offence of sexual harassment as alleged by Ex-Private Ruth Ogunleye.

The army maintained that Colonel Abdulkareem is a disciplined, regimented, and firm officer who has upheld the values of the Nigerian Army throughout his service.

It would be revalled that a trending video of Ex-Private Ogunleye emerged some months ago claiming to exposed alleged abuse in the Nigerian Army as her Superior Started Maltreating her "Because she Refused Him To Have her".
Other Senior Officers were also alleged to have been involved in the harassment.

Ex-Private Ruth Ogunleye has been formerly discharged from the Nigerian Army on 14th of June 2024, prior to recommendations for discharge on medical grounds since 2022.

General Nwachukwu further stated that despite compasionate considerations of Ex-Private Ruth Ogunleye case, she continued to propagate false narratives against Colonel Abdulkareem and other senior officers, using online platforms to engage in cyberbullying and defamation

"Ex-private Ruth did not serve up to pensionable years of service (10 years), she has nonetheless been discharged from the Nigerian Army with 50 percent disability claim, meaning she will receive a 50 percent monthly pension for life. She has also been paid her Terminal Leave Allowance and Terminal Packing Allowance, as well as her contributions to Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme (NAWIS) and Benevolent Fund (BENFUND)"

" Her Security Debarment Allowance for the period she served (5 years 54 days) has also been paid. The decision for her discharge was reached following her rejection of offer of medical treatment either from the National Hospital or the Nigerian Army"

According to the Army, Ex-Private Ogunleye's behaviour, both online and offline had raised questions about her worsening mental health and emotional stability which led to medical evaluation at the National Hospital in Abuja in addition to the Nigerian Army Medical Corps examination that had suggested potential mental health concerns.

" It is crucial to assert that the Nigerian Army, in its bid to ensure justice and transparency, conducted an exhaustive review of the facts, testimonies, and evidence presented. The investigation concluded that Colonel IB Abdulkareem did not commit the offence of sexual harassment as alleged by Ex-Private Ruth Ogunleye"

"The findings were definitive and based on objective evaluation of the available information. The Army maintains that Colonel Abdulkareem is a disciplined, regimented, and firm officer who has upheld the values of the Nigerian Army throughout his service" stated General Nwachukwu.
