Nigerian Military Says While It Mourns The Passing of General Lagbaja, Its Focus Remains Desimation of Terrorists, Criminals, Keeping Nigeria Safe

The armed forces of Nigeria says as it continue to mourn the tragic passing away of the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, it will not allow his passing to derail its focus to destroy the terrorists but be inspired by his actions on the battlefield as a war commander. 

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba stated this while briefing Journalists on operational activities 9f the troops across the country. 

According to him, the troops of the Nigerian military within the month of October 2024, have neutralized 481 terrorists, arrested 741 persons including terrorist amd rescued 492 kidnapped hostages.

The troops also recovered 480 weapons and 9,026 assorted ammunitions. denying oil thieves of an estimated #4 bn (N3,896,400.960.00) only.

The DHQ said troops recovered 263 AK47 rifles, 81 locally fabricated guns, 91 dane guns, 76 pump action guns, 5,683 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,944 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 642 cartridges, 160 assorted arms and 1,526 assorted ammunitions. 

Others are 3,226,645 litres of stolen crude oil, 763,860 litres of illegally refined AGO and 12,690 litres of PMS amongst other item.

In a statement by on Saturday, 9th of November 2024, the Director Defence Media Operations said the troops have intensified offensive against terrorist and insurgents across the country with synchronized air strikes by the Nigerian Air Force and ground operations of ground forces, dislodging terrorist from their enclaves, killing several of them. 

The air component of Operation HADIN KAI, on 6 Nov 24, conducted targeted air strikes on terrorists located at KWALLARAM and ARAINNA CIKI islands in Borno State. The strikes according to General Buba resulted in the neutralisation of over 70 extremist members at KWALLARAM, with several more killed at ARAINNA CIKI.

Furthermore, troops during the week under review neutralised 169 terrorists, arrested 641 persons, 40 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 181 kidnapped hostages. 

 According to the DHQ, 192 assorted weapons and 2,970 assorted ammunition including 106 AK47 rifles, 38 fabricated rifles, 26 dane guns, one FN rifle, 3 fabricated revolver pistol, 11 locally made pistols, 5 pump action guns, ome dummy AK47 rifle, one unexploded RPG bomb, 

Other items include 1,410 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,074 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 67 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm, 130 rounds of 108mm, 101 rounds of 9mm ammo, 146 live cartridges, 2 baofeng radios, 7 vehicles, 29 motorcycles, 40 mobile phones and the sum of N729,000.00 only amongst other items.

In the Niger Delta area, troops discovered and destroyed 20 crude oil cooking ovens, 2 dugout pits, 42 boats, 7 reservoirs, 5 drums, 50 storage tanks and 83 illegal refining sites. Other items recovered include 3 pumping machines, 3 outboard engines, one generator set, one speedboat, 8 motorcycles, 3 mobile phones and 3 vehicles among others. Troops recovered 914,445 litres of stolen crude oil, 537,325 litres of illegally refined AGO and 1,285 litres of PMS.
