President Tinubu Commends Nigerian Navy's Sustained Efforts in Securing Maritime Domain As 264 Naval Cadets Get Commissioned

President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Nigerian Navy for its sustained efforts in securing the maritime domain, leading to notable improvements in national economic indicators that have increased crude oil output—now surpassing 1.7 million barrels per day. 


The President who was represented by the Minister of State for Defence Dr. Bello Matawalle as the Reviewing Officer stated this at the Passing Out Parade and Commissioning Ceremony of 264 naval cadets of the Direct Short Service Course 29 (DSSC 29) and the Special Duty Pre-Commissioning Training Course 2024 (SDPCT 24), held at the Nigerian Naval College, Ebubu, Rivers State.


A statement signed by the Personal Assistant to the Minister of State for Defence on Media, Ahmad Dan-Wudil said, he commended the ongoing transformational initiatives within the Navy, which include the establishment of new formations such as the Special Operations Command and the Nigerian Navy Marines. He equally commended the operationalisation of strategic bases including NNS MADUEKE and Naval Base Epe, as well as strides in indigenous shipbuilding, reflecting the Navy's growing self-sufficiency and innovation.


Dr. Matawalle conveyed the warm felicitations of the Commander-in-Chief, emphasizing that the commissioning marks a critical reinforcement of the officer cadre of the Nigerian Navy, at a time when the nation demands utmost professionalism, courage, and loyalty from its Armed Forces. 


He reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to enhance the operational readiness and strategic capabilities of the Nigerian Navy in addressing evolving maritime security challenges.


In his address to the newly commissioned officers, he charged them to serve with honour, uphold the Navy’s enduring core values of Professionalism, Teamwork, and Integrity, calling on them to remain guided at all times with discipline, loyalty, and absolute allegiance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.


He also commended to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, for his strategic leadership and operational foresight, and commended the Commandant and directing staff of the Nigerian Naval College for the high standards of training and mentorship provided to the cadets.


The representative of the President also reaffirmed the administration's steadfast support for the Nigerian Armed Forces, reiterating the Renewed Hope administration’s commitment to providing all requisite resources to bolster national defence capabilities and assert maritime superiority.
