The troops of the Nigeria Army in collaboration with other security agencies successfully rescued three persons kidnapped along the Naka/Makurdi road in Benue State, following a coordinated rescue operation on Wednesday.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the victims Idres Sidetu, John Kwaghkha, and Tersoo Hanger, were reportedly abducted by armed men suspected to be herdsmen who had blocked the busy Naka-Adoka road with cattle at about 3:05 p.m.
In response to a distress call, a joint team of army troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, operatives Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Safer Highway Patrol, Operation Zenda, and conventional police officers were immediately mobilised to the area.
Upon arrival, the troops launched a search operation in the surrounding bushes. During the operation, a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between the security team and the suspected kidnappers. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower, the attackers fled, abandoning their victims.
Three of the kidnapped individuals were successfully rescued, while one identified as Terkula Msugh is still unaccounted for.
The troops have intensified their search to locate and rescue the remaining victim.
