Sports loving Nigerians have been called upon to support the Nigerian Sports
Book of Record
1884-2017
which was formally presented to the public on thursday, 26, july, 2018 in Abuja.
Presenting the book Written by Nigeria author, Nicholas Kwanta at the Fedral Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Minister
of Sports, Solomon Dalung applauded the project describing it as a project
that will inspire the young, the old and future generations.
“Our sports sector needs reforms
and rejuvenation. Therefore the Federal Ministry
of Youth and Sports Development has accepted to collaborate with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and
Africa Image to rebrand the country’s
sports industry through the book and Nigeria
Sports Hall of Fame, as it will take us back to the glorious moments of the
past, help us examine the present and guide us towards the future of the
Nigerian Sports Industry” Said Barrister Dalung.
The project captures the Nigerian sports history dating as far back as
1884-2017 and according to the Sports Minister “is
a compendium meant for sports heroes and heroines (death and alive) who have
displayed deep passion, determination, drive , will –power and endurance to
creates records at the national, regional and international sporting events
thereby enriching Nigeria’s name at the global community”.
He
therefor called on all sports loving Nigerians to join the
collaboration of the great Nigerian men and women who have projected
nigeria's image in the global arena at the official launching of the
firts of its kind Sports compendium and the formal induction of the
legends into the SPORTS HALL OF FAME scheduled for september 11, 2018.

The ‘Nigeria Sports Book of Record
1884-2017’ is an important piece of Nigeria’s history and will be subjected
to periodic editing.
It would be recalled that about two years ago, The Director General Voice
of Nigeria, MR. Osita Okechuku pledged his support to the initiative and
promised to use Voice of Nigeria to propagate the book to its external audience.
He applauded the thought behind the book and added that voice of Nigeria
will make sure the world hears about it.
“Voice of Nigeria’s mandate is simple;
to propagate the country externally and we give allot of publicity to sports.
What we have is what we are going to offer, we are going to tell the world that
there is an organization like this. On behalf of the management of voice of
Nigeria, we give you our full support.” Said the Director General.
The book is due to be launched in September and as part of the event, some sports heroes will be inducted into Nigeria Sports Hall of Fame.
