In a decisive action, the personnel of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army have neutralized three bandits, liberated ten kidnapped victims, and secured a cache of weapons.
In an official statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 1 Division Nigerian Army, these events transpired in the Chikun Local Government Area as well as the Birnin Yero village in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The operation resulted in the apprehension of an AK-47 rifle, accompanied by 28 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, as well as a camo jungle hat, three mobile phones, a headscarf, an MP3 player, mystical charms, and the sum of one thousand, three hundred and five naira.
These accomplishments were achieved as part of the relentless and aggressive clearance operation targeting criminal entities within the Division's jurisdiction, which produced promising outcomes as our courageous troops encountered marauding bandits and other criminal elements.
Following credible intelligence, the troops effectively exploited the Kabode general vicinity in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on August 11, 2023. Engaging in a firefight with the marauding bandits, the troops showcased their exceptional skills and determination.
In a prior operation on August 10, 2023, acting on trustworthy intelligence regarding a kidnapping incident in Danbaba village of Igabi Local Government, troops set an ambush in Birnin Yero. Upon sighting the troops, the bandits swiftly fled, leaving behind all ten kidnapped victims. The recently rescued individuals have been provided with necessary medical care and subsequently reunited with their families.
Maj Gen BA Alabi, the General Officer Commanding the 1 Division Nigerian Army and the Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, has once again expressed commendation for the troops' resolute efforts. He also urged communities to consistently furnish the Nigerian Army and other security agencies with timely and credible intelligence, reinforcing the collective commitment to maintaining security and stability."
