The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has ordered an investigation into a disturbing news report that surfaced on some social and main stream media alleging that troops of 1 Division annihilated 3 persons and some cattle during a recent operation at Sabon Birni in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Chief of Army Staff's directive is with a view to establishing the immediate and remote causes of the incident and unraveling those behind it stated.
Reacting to the reports published with gory pictures and video footage, the Nigerian Army the Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu said a thorough investigation has been directed into the matter and any personnel found culpable in the allegations will be appropriately sanctioned.
The Nigerian Army in the statement sympathize with Sabon Birni community and families of the affected persons, but emphasized that the Army is an institution constitutionally mandated to protect lives and property of the citizenry and can not tolerate actions that go against that mandate.
The Nigerian Army therefore appealed to the general public for calm, assuring the outcome of the investigation will also be made public.
