The Chief of Defence Staff ( CDS), General Christopher Musa and Service Chiefs were in Maiduguri the Borno State capital to commensurate with the Government and people of Borno State over the recent flood disaster that ravaged the state.
The Chief of Defence Staff was in company of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, representative of Chief of the Naval Staff and Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Speaking at the Government house Maiduguri where he met with Governor Professor Babagana Zulum, the CDS sympathized with the government and people of Borno state over the unfortunate incident that rendered many homeless in a state that has been picking up from the rackage of insurgency.
According to a statement by the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, General Musa assured the governor that members of the Armed Forces will continue to support the state to ensure all matters arising from the aftermath of the flood are addressed.
Professor Babagana Zulum in his response, expressed appreciation to the military under the leadership of General Christopher Musa and the service Chiefs for the visit, while commending the military for their rescue efforts to the victims.
"Without the support of the Military, by now we would have lost more lives" he emphasised.
According to Governor Zulum, he has asked the President when he visited to convey Borno State deepest gratitude to the military for all they have done during the critical period, maintaining that insecurity in the state has improved by over Ninety Percent.
The CDS and the Service Chiefs were also at the Shehu of Borno Palace where he he appreciated the Shehu for his fatherly prayers assuring the monarch that Borno is his home.
General Musa said " we are here to offer our prayers to the soul of the departed while commisurating with those who lost means of their livelihood."
Responding, the Shehu of Borno appreciated the CDS and his entourage for doing so much for Maiduguri attesting that the theater Commander and his team were unrelenting in providing assistance to the victims of the flooding.
Addressing troops at the frontline, the Defence Chief, in company the Service Chiefs appreciated the troops for their prompt response and rescue operations during the flooding, stressing that he knows " It is not an easy task".
He urged them that more needs to be done to assist the state government in getting out of the aftermath of the flood, charging them not to be distracted in performing their primary duties. The CDS also conveyed the special greetings from president as he commended the troops bravely.
General Musa further appealed for troops to be more focused and committed to diminishing the capabilities of criminals, while pledging to provide all necessary equipment to execute their tasks while promising to look at the welfare needs of the troops in order to meet up with changing demands.
