Former Chief of Army Staff General Theophilus Danjuma has stated there are "no excuses" for the lingering insecurity ravaging the country, tasking the Service Chiefs to end banditry across the country and return peace to trouble zones.
General Danjuma was said this in his address at a book launch titled "Big Boots: Lessons From My Military Service " written by retired Major General Solomon Udounwa at the Armed Forces Command Officers Mess, in Abuja.
He said Nigeria must end the pandemic of insecurity, stop the killings in the country as soon as possible as there are no excuses to those still in service.
General Danjuma who was the Chairman of occasion praised the author's commitment to excellence in his military career and for painstakingly capturing his experience in a book to also enreach the experience of others still in the field.
The Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa who said the military is working tirelessly to restore peace across the country stressed that the personnel are dedicated and committed to ensuring that peace and security are restored in the country. The CDS said the Nigerian military shall not be deterred in the face of challenges.
"I want to assure you that we have learned a lot from your record, very, very distinguished senior officers that have modeled us all through the years. We cannot afford to fail and we will not fail" stated General Christopher Musa.
The author of the book, retired Major General Udounwa said the military profession thrives on experiential learning and they are documented for those behind to learn from them.
" if you don't document your experiences, that could be lost and those coming behind you might not be able to learn from all the exposure and all the training that you had while in service."
According to General Udenwa, his book will interest those serving, the military historians, to those in the academia, and anyone interested in national and international security affairs.
He encouraged the younger generation of officers who are still serving to learn from some of the challenges captured and documented in the book and how he was able to navigate through them while serving with discipline, professionalism, integrity, courage, and character among many other virtues required of a service man.
