Training Is Vital To Achieving Required Level of Proficiency for All Personnel - General Officer Commanding 81 Division

Training is a vital instrument for achieving the required level of proficiency to carry out duties within units, formations, and among Nigerian Army personnel.


The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, made this call at the recently concluded 81 Division Officers Training Week, held at the TA Lagbaja Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos.
A statement by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya said Major General Mijinyawa emphasized that all commanders at all levels should maintain stringent supervision of their troops and uphold the highest professional military standards in the execution of their duties. 


He said the country is facing numerous security challenges, where leadership, especially at the junior level, is essential for operational effectiveness, therefore the training week provided an opportunity for officers to enhance and perfect the essential rudiments of operational planning at the tactical level to improve the conduct of operations, particularly in Lagos State. 

He therefore encouraged participants to fully utilize the training week, incorporating key takeaways and justifying the essence of the training.


The Commander 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Olawale Oyekola who also addressed the participants noted that the theme of the Training Week "Developing Capacity for Officers to Meet the Contemporary Challenges in a Joint Environment", was selected while urging participants to be open-minded and engage in robust interactions, maximizing the benefits of the training.

The Chief of Staff, Headquarters 9 Brigade, Colonel Ibrahim Sheriff, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the GOC for strategic guidance and leadership, and the Commander 9 Brigade and other formation and unit commanders for their support and contributions to the success of the training week.


The Training Week featured a series of lectures, including "Impact of Effective Leadership on Operational Efficiency: The Role of Junior Commanders," "Maintaining Discipline Among Personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria: An Analysis of Prevalent Offences Within 81 Division Area of Responsibility," and "Approaches to Cardiovascular Health Promotion Amongst Nigerian Army Personnel."
