The operation was carried out on Tuesday, 30 July 2025, following credible intelligence about armed elements in Mararaba Gbagir.
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralized
a suspected armed bandit and recovered multiple weapons following a clearance
operation in Mararaba Gbagir, Benue State, on Tuesday, 30 July.
The raid, which was based on credible intelligence, led
to a firefight between the joint task force and armed elements in the area. One
suspect was killed during the encounter, while others reportedly escaped with
gunshot wounds.
According to a statement by Acting Media Information
Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, troops recovered six AK-47 magazines,
three 9mm rounds, two 7.62mm special rounds, a locally fabricated gun, and a
locally made pistol. Charms and shrines used by the suspects were also
destroyed.
In the same statement, Force Commander Operation Whirl
Stroke, Major General Moses Gara said, “We remain committed to dismantling
criminal enclaves and restoring peace across the Joint Operations Area. The troops
will not relent.”
He commended the troops for their “professionalism,
precision, and bravery,” urging continued public support through actionable
intelligence to aid military operations in Benue and surrounding states.
