🇳🇬 Nigeria Sweeps Pan African Youth Scrabble Championships

 


Team Nigeria dominated the Pan African Youth Scrabble Championships in Kenya, clinching all individual and team titles across the U-15 and U-19 categories.

The clean sweep underscores Nigeria’s status as Africa’s leading force in youth Scrabble, with captain Sufyan Olojoku leading a stellar national performance.

In the U-15 category, Sophia Ekeruche was the standout player, finishing unbeaten with 18 victories and a cumulative score of +3871. Kenya’s Kingsley Odhiambo came second with 14 wins (+583), while Nigeria’s Hassan Olojoku secured third place with 13 wins (+1387). Ghana’s Michael Somuah, despite also winning 13 games, missed the podium due to a lower cumulative score of +796.

Another Nigerian, Eliana Igbe, finished sixth with 12 wins (+1406), just behind Kenya’s Adrian Ngache. Nigeria also secured the U-15 team crown, edging out Kenya and Ghana.

In the U-19 division, former U-15 champion Prestige Archibong narrowly defeated compatriot Abdulqudus Aliu. Both players won 18 out of 24 games, but Archibong’s higher cumulative score (+2794) gave him the edge over Aliu (+2568). Team captain Sufyan Olojoku finished with 17 wins but still made the podium due to a strong cumulative score. Joy Nwabuzor and Olive Alila also placed highly, while the U-19 top 10 featured Ghana’s Delali Aquila and Kenya’s Israel Otieno, Jerem Kipchumba, Samson Karani, and Emmanuel Wandera.

Nigeria clinched the U-19 team title as well, with Ghana and Kenya completing the podium.

The sweep across all categories cements Nigeria’s dominance in African youth Scrabble and highlights the country’s rising talent in mind sports.
