The assault underscores the continued threat posed by the Allied Democratic
Forces (ADF) in eastern Congo, despite ongoing joint operations with Ugandan
forces to curb the group’s attacks.
According to local reports, some
victims were shot inside their homes while others perished in the fires set by
the attackers. The Congolese military said the attack was an act of revenge
after recent losses suffered by the ADF at the hands of government forces.
Last week, the ADF was blamed for
killing 47 people in Lubero territory. The group has also targeted churches in
Ituri and North Kivu provinces.
