Vietnam and Egypt have signed a new agreement elevating their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Partnership, opening opportunities in trade, technology, and diplomacy.

Vietnamese President Lương Cường and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi, on Tuesday signed a joint statement upgrading the Vietnam–Egypt relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership. The announcement follows decades of bilateral ties and signals a strategic push to deepen cooperation between Southeast Asia and the Middle East–Africa corridor.

The agreement covers a broad spectrum of sectors, including trade, green energy, digital transformation, education, defense, halal production, and fintech. Both leaders pledged to establish a working group for a potential Vietnam–Egypt Free Trade Agreement and committed to unlocking access to new markets.

Egypt, situated at the crossroads of Africa, Asia, and Europe, pledged to act as a regional hub for Vietnamese exporters, while Vietnam offered reciprocal market access and strategic entry into the ASEAN bloc. Vietnam’s leadership also emphasized support for expanded tourism and cultural exchange programs.

Bilateral trade between the two nations reached $541.4 million in 2024, the highest between Vietnam and any North African country, with Vietnam recording a significant trade surplus.

Both sides also reaffirmed mutual support in multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), African Union (AU), and ASEAN, underlining their shared commitment to regional peace, sustainable development, and global cooperation.
