Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal on Thursday reaffirmed his administration’s
unwavering position against holding talks with bandits, declaring that his
government will never strike deals with those terrorising residents.
According to
a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the governor was
speaking during a condolence tour to communities recently attacked by gunmen in
Kauran Namoda Local Government Area.
Lawal
visited Kagara, Dan Isa and Kasuwar Daji, meeting victims, assessing
destruction and pledging government assistance. The tour, he explained, was
part of a wider outreach to show solidarity and gain first-hand insight into
the security situation.
“From the
onset of my tenure, I made it clear: we will not negotiate with bandits. That
position remains unchanged and will not change,” Lawal said. “These criminals
have consistently shown no sincerity or remorse.”
The governor
also vowed to fix the deteriorated access roads to the affected communities,
saying improved connectivity was key to local development and rapid security
response.
His visits, the statement noted, reflect a two-pronged approach — confronting insecurity head-on while tackling infrastructure gaps that heighten rural vulnerability.
