The operation, carried out on 6 September 2025, was a cordon-and-search mission in Ikyaior village following intelligence that a suspect known as “Full Fire” was sheltering armed criminals in the area.

According to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, no suspects were found at the scene, but a cache of items was recovered.

Recovered materials include:

5 Special Forces face caps

3 AK-47 magazines

3 FN rifle magazines

3 rifle slings

2 FN rifle breech blocks and slides

1 AK-47 firing mechanism

2 FN rifle stocks

2 FN rifle springs

1 mini-telescopic sight

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander 6 Brigade / Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, praised the troops for their swift action and professionalism. “The Brigade will remain vigilant, proactive, and resolute in ridding Taraba State of criminal elements,” he assured.

Fact-Check & Background Context

The operation was conducted on 6 September 2025 at Ikyaior village, Wukari LGA.

Recovered items include magazines, rifle parts, tactical gear, charms, and a mini-telescopic sight.

No suspects were apprehended, as confirmed in the Army’s official release.

Wukari and adjoining border areas have long been flashpoints due to the movement of armed groups between Benue and Taraba States. Security agencies have consistently reported the use of rural settlements as arms storage hubs and transit routes.

Operation Whirl Stroke, under which the 6 Brigade operates, was launched in 2018 to combat herder–farmer violence, banditry, and communal clashes in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba. The recovery of weapons at Wukari highlights the Brigade’s push to dismantle supply chains feeding armed violence across the North Central region.
