The Chief of Defence Staff has reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment to deeper collaboration with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, underscoring the importance of strategic research and policy development to national security.

The assurance was given during a courtesy visit by the Director General of NIPSS to the Defence Headquarters, at a time when Nigeria faces complex security, governance and development challenges.
According to a statement by the Director, Defence Information, Major General SM Uba, the CDS, General Olufemi Oluyede, described NIPSS as a critical national institution whose role in cultivating strategic-level manpower and producing transformational policy research remains indispensable.
General Oluyede expressed satisfaction with the Institute’s focus on research and development, noting that evidence-based policy solutions are urgently required in the current security environment. He conveyed the readiness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to partner with NIPSS in developing practical solutions to national challenges.
An alumnus of the Institute and a member of its Board of Governors, the CDS reiterated the Armed Forces’ unwavering support for NIPSS across all areas necessary for the Institute to effectively deliver on its mandate.
Earlier, the Director General of NIPSS, Professor Ayo Omotayo, commended the CDS and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their sacrifices in safeguarding the country’s unity and stability. He briefed the CDS on an ongoing collaborative project with the Nigerian Army aimed at developing policy-driven solutions, and appealed for expanded support from the Armed Forces to ensure its successful completion.
Professor Omotayo also outlined plans to reposition NIPSS as a leading African think-tank for the incubation and development of transformational ideas, stressing that sustained military support would be vital to realising this vision. He further called for continued assistance to improve the teaching and learning environment at the Institute.
The visit reinforced the growing recognition of strategic collaboration between Nigeria’s military leadership and policy institutions as a key pillar for sustainable national security and development.
