Nigeria and India have taken another step toward strengthening their strategic defence partnership following a courtesy visit by the Indian Defence Adviser to Nigeria to the Chief of Army Staff at Army Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit reflects ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen military cooperation, expand professional engagement and reinforce shared security interests as Nigeria continues to confront evolving security challenges.
According to a statement signed by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Indian Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Colonel Manoj Singh, paid the visit on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral defence relations and expanding areas of cooperation between both armies.
During his remarks, Colonel Singh praised the Nigerian Army for its sustained operations against security threats nationwide and expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him.
“The Nigerian Army has demonstrated resilience and professionalism in addressing complex security challenges. India remains committed to expanding defence cooperation, broadening training opportunities for Nigerian Army personnel and deepening technical exchanges in areas of mutual benefit,” he said.
In his response, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, NA, described Nigeria’s defence relationship with India as enduring and strategic, noting that India’s support over the years has played a critical role in military training, capacity building and defence development.
“India’s long-standing contributions to training, capacity building and defence development have been invaluable. There is a clear need to further enhance collaboration in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence sharing, equipment support and professional military education,” the Army Chief stated.
The engagement also featured the presentation of souvenirs to the Indian Defence Adviser by the Chief of Army Staff as a symbol of friendship and continued cooperation. Colonel Singh signed the visitors’ book before a group photograph to mark the visit.
The Army Headquarters described the visit as part of sustained diplomatic and military engagements aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s defence partnerships and improving operational effectiveness through international cooperation.
