This message was underscored in Benin City as military formations and sister services gathered in an interdenominational setting to honour officers and soldiers who paid the supreme price in defence of Nigeria.

According to a statement signed by the Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Headquarters 4 Brigade, Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, the Interdenominational Church Service was held by 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, the 107 Air Maritime Group of the Nigerian Air Force, the Military Hospital and the Nigerian Legion, Edo State Chapter.

The service focused on celebrating victory while remembering fallen heroes from past and present conflicts, including the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War and internal and external peacekeeping operations.

Delivering the sermon, Lieutenant Colonel (Rev) MS Dallys said the theme of the service was “Celebration of Victory and Remembrance of the Fallen Heroes.”

“We give thanks for victory, pray for continued success of our Armed Forces, and commit the souls of our fallen heroes to God’s eternal rest,” he said, while reading from 1 Samuel 17:45–51.

The service featured senior military officers, including the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Major General AO Adegbite, who read the First Lesson, and the Commander 107 Air Maritime Group of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore EV Onu, who read the Second Lesson.

In his remarks, the Commander 4 Brigade, Brigadier General AO Balogun, noted that AFCRD 2026 activities in Edo State began on January 9 with a special Juma’at prayer at the 4 Brigade Mosque.

“We pray for God’s mercy and eternal rest for our fallen heroes, and divine protection and blessings for serving, retired and discharged personnel,” the Brigade Commander said.

The interdenominational service formed part of nationwide remembrance activities aimed at strengthening civil-military bonds, sustaining morale and reaffirming the enduring values of sacrifice, unity and service within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
