This assurance was delivered by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa Oluyede, in his goodwill message to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD).

The CDS framed the occasion as both a moment of solemn remembrance and a strategic reminder that peace and liberty come at a high cost, paid by men and women who chose duty over personal safety in defence of Nigeria’s unity.

According to the Chief of Defence Staff, fallen heroes did not perish by accident, but answered a patriotic calling whose legacy continues to shape the nation’s security conscience.

“The Armed Forces shall give no quarter, nor mortgage the cradle of our national heritage and security at any time. The boast of our nation’s adversaries will forever remain poor, and the consequences of their hubris shall be disappointment,” Oluyede said.

He commended officers and men currently deployed across various theatres of operation, describing their battle scars as silent testimony to professionalism, discipline and selfless service under extreme conditions.

“You have consistently demonstrated loyalty, valour and an unyielding will to stand firm against those who seek to undermine our freedom and democracy,” he stated.

The CDS stressed that troop welfare remains a central pillar of his military strategic philosophy, which prioritises enhanced jointness, reinforced operational posture, improved welfare and sound administration under a whole-of-government approach.

He noted that building a highly professional Armed Forces capable of meeting its constitutional responsibilities requires close collaboration with other security institutions, civil authorities and the continued guidance of veterans whose experiences offer critical lessons.

General Oluyede also expressed appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for sustained leadership, strategic direction and support to the military, assuring Nigerians of the Armed Forces’ enduring commitment to democratic values and national stability.

He extended special gratitude to military families, particularly spouses, whom he described as courageously holding the home front while personnel serve in demanding and often dangerous environments.

In a call to the wider public, the CDS urged Nigerians to use the remembrance period to strengthen national unity, reject divisive rhetoric and reflect on the shared destiny that binds the country together.

“As you wear the remembrance emblem, do so with pride, knowing that it symbolises a debt of gratitude to our fallen heroes and the unsung men and women who keep our nation safe,” he said.

The Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day is observed annually to honour fallen military personnel and to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to peace, stability and collective national purpose.
