Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have sustained offensive operations against terrorist elements, destroying multiple camps, recovering arms and equipment, and repelling coordinated attacks within the Timbuktu Triangle.

The latest successes were recorded during ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY, following deliberate and intelligence-led ground advances conducted on Sunday, 18 January 2026, across identified terrorist enclaves in Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the operation was supported by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, which provided sustained Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance coverage over the axis.
The air to ground coordination enabled real-time tracking of terrorist movement, disrupted attempts at reinforcement, and enhanced the precision and effectiveness of ground operations.
During the clearance operations, troops recovered items of military and logistical value, including Baofeng radios, mobile phones, AK-47 magazines, assorted rounds of 7.62 × 39mm special ammunition, 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition, Boko Haram and ISWAP flags, links of 12.7 × 108mm ammunition, diesel-powered grinding machines, large quantities of medical supplies, bags of grains, a pick-up truck, underground logistics storage facilities and a Petroleum and Oil Lubricant dump.
The recovered items were assessed to have significantly degraded the operational and logistical capacity of the terrorist groups operating within the area.
At about midday, advancing troops came under armed drone attacks by the terrorists. Despite the assault, troops maintained operational momentum and continued the offensive. A second drone-enabled attack later in the evening was also decisively repelled, forcing the terrorists to withdraw and reaffirming troops’ dominance of the area.
The statement noted that despite sustained engagements, troop morale remains high and fighting efficiency continues to be maintained. The general security situation in the area was assessed as calm but unpredictable, with troops remaining vigilant and at a high state of readiness.
The Military High Command reaffirmed that offensive operations will continue, as troops remain resolute in their mission to eliminate terrorist threats, protect civilians and restore lasting peace and stability across the North East.
