The operation underscores ongoing military efforts to deny criminal groups freedom of movement across the North Central region, where security forces continue to target kidnapping syndicates and armed networks threatening public safety and economic activities.

Military authorities disclosed that troops of 12 Brigade, operating under 2 Division Nigerian Army, acted on credible intelligence indicating preparations by terrorists to launch kidnapping activities around Jakura II Community in Lokoja Local Government Area.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops deployed to a suspected crossing point along the Old Obajana–Tajimi Road and established an ambush position to intercept the criminal elements before they could execute their plans.

During the operation, troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, resulting in the neutralisation of one suspect, while other members of the group reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.

Subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bandolier and mobile phones.

Security officials noted that the recovered items further reinforce assessments linking the group to kidnapping activities within the general area.

The successful operation reflects the Nigerian Army’s sustained offensive posture against terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements seeking to destabilise communities across Kogi State and adjoining areas.

Commander 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops for their vigilance, combat efficiency and professionalism, while reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal networks operating within its area of responsibility.

The commander also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and actionable intelligence, noting that collaboration between communities and security forces remains critical to sustaining gains against criminal elements.

Military authorities confirmed that follow-up exploitation operations are ongoing to track and apprehend fleeing members of the group while consolidating security around vulnerable communities and transit routes.
