The Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI hosted the United Kingdom Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (Military Strategy and Operations), Lieutenant General Charlie Collins, and his delegation during a strategic visit focused on strengthening operational cooperation and professional military development.
The engagement as contained in a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, highlights the continuing security collaboration between both countries as Nigeria sustains efforts against terrorism and other threats affecting stability in the North East.
Partnership Beyond Operations
The visit reflected a broader shift from short-term security assistance towards institutional capacity building, where training, knowledge exchange and professional development remain central components of modern military effectiveness.
During the engagement, Lieutenant General Collins reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to continued collaboration with Nigeria, emphasising the importance of sustaining the longstanding relationship between both countries in addressing evolving security challenges.
The interaction also reinforced the importance of international defence partnerships in improving operational readiness and strengthening the ability of security forces to respond to complex threats.
Training And Capability Development
Theatre leadership within Operation HADIN KAI described strategic partnerships, training cooperation and military development as important elements in consolidating operational gains and supporting long-term stability across the North East.
The delegation inspected the Quarter Guard and observed a practical field training exercise conducted under the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT), highlighting continued cooperation in capability enhancement.
The training initiative reflects efforts to improve professional standards, operational effectiveness and institutional resilience within the Nigerian military environment.
The engagement speaks to the growing role of defence diplomacy in Nigeria’s security architecture, where cooperation with international partners is increasingly tied to building sustainable capabilities rather than only responding to immediate threats.
For Operation HADIN KAI, the partnership remains connected to the wider objective of degrading terrorist networks, protecting communities and supporting conditions necessary for lasting peace in the North East.
