The latest operational successes underscore the Joint Task Force's sustained strategy of combining fighting patrols with actionable intelligence to weaken terrorist mobility, disrupt criminal logistics and improve civilian security across vulnerable communities.
According to Operation FANSAN YAMMA, troops of Sector 2 rescued nine kidnapped victims during a fighting patrol in Faskari Local Government Area. The victims, comprising three women, four men and two children, had been abducted on 9 July 2026 along the Tsafe–Kuchere Road in neighbouring Zamfara State. Military authorities disclosed that the victims escaped from their captors after the terrorists fell asleep before being intercepted and secured by troops. They are currently undergoing processing ahead of reunification with their families.
In a separate operation in Bakori Local Government Area, troops responded to credible intelligence on terrorists attempting to rustle livestock. Army authorities said the criminals opened fire upon sighting the advancing troops but retreated under superior military firepower, abandoning 56 rustled animals comprising four cattle and 52 sheep. The recovered livestock remain in military custody pending transfer to the appropriate local authorities.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA also confirmed the arrest of a suspected terrorist during routine operations in Danmusa Local Government Area. Preliminary exploitation of materials recovered from the suspect indicated possible links to terrorist activities, while further investigations are continuing to support ongoing intelligence operations.
The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended troops for their professionalism, vigilance and resilience in sustaining pressure on terrorist and criminal elements operating across the theatre. The military leadership reiterated that intelligence-led operations, conducted in collaboration with other security agencies and local communities, will continue until terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes are decisively degraded throughout the North-West.
The latest operations reflect the Nigerian military's continuing emphasis on proactive field intelligence, rapid response and sustained offensive action aimed at denying armed groups freedom of movement while restoring public confidence in security across affected communities.
