The Minister’s position was contained in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, on Monday, August 24, 2026.
While acknowledging the importance of his new political assignment, General Musa made clear that his primary responsibility as Minister of Defence remains the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the lives and property of its citizens.
He stressed that ongoing defence operations, strategic reforms and inter-agency collaborations across the defence sector would continue unabated, with the Ministry maintaining its focus on strengthening national security and supporting the administration’s vision for a safe and prosperous Nigeria.
General Musa also called on APC members and patriotic Nigerians to remain united behind the administration, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections and its continued delivery of governance and security nationwide.
The Minister’s message ultimately places his new political responsibility alongside, rather than above, his continuing constitutional mandate, with the Defence Ministry expected to sustain its security operations and institutional responsibilities throughout the political cycle.
