Sustained military operations across Nigeria's North East have continued to weaken terrorist networks, with 17 family members of Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad (JAS) voluntarily surrendering to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in separate incidents in Konduga and Bama Local Government Areas of Borno State.

16 JAS family members comprising 10 women and six children surrendered to troops of 222 Battalion during a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga at about 09:15 on 4 August 2026. During preliminary debriefing, the group attributed its decision to surrender to the sustained operational pressure mounted by troops against terrorist enclaves.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, Security personnel also recovered ₦92,000 from the group.
In a related development, an 11-year-old JAS family member voluntarily surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion under Sector 1 in Bama Local Government Area at about 12:04 on the same day. The minor similarly stated during preliminary debriefing that sustained military pressure influenced the decision to leave the terrorist enclave.
The statement by Operation HADIN KAI disclosed that all surrendered individuals are undergoing profiling and preliminary debriefing in military custody before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further assessment, rehabilitation where applicable and other administrative processes in line with established procedures.
The latest surrenders reflect the cumulative impact of ongoing offensive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting logistics networks and denying terrorist elements freedom of movement across the North East.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations while continuing to facilitate the safe and voluntary surrender of individuals willing to disengage from terrorist groups in accordance with extant guidelines.
