Army Command And NAOWA Hospital Opens Amidst COVID-19 Global Crisis

There is no denying that nations around the world, including Nigeria are in a precarious health situation with the COVID-19 pandemic drawing all attention to the health Sector. 

As the worlds attention shifts to the health sector trying to grapple with the realities of the  present time, the Nigerian army is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that health facilities in the army command and NAOWA Hospital are of good standard to deliver the needed health services. 

It is in the light of this that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai inspected the Army command and Nigeria Army Officers' Wives Association Hospital Asokoro to ensure quality health service is provided as the hospital prepares to take off officially with operations. 

the  Chief Medical Director,  Army  Command and NAOWA Hospital Major General Ikechukwu Okeke (RTD), said the hospital is the initiative of the National President of Nigerian Army Officers' Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Umma-Kalsum Buratai who is also the Chairperson of The Hospital Management Board. 

According to him, the Nigerian Army keyed in to the vision and provided support in the completion and equipping of The project as a collaborative project between the Nigerian Army and NAOWA. 

"Since we find ourselves in this situation, more effort will be made to put the hospital in a good position To be part of The national response plan, Health education and necessary precautionary measures will be put in place to protect our staff and patients,  The hospital shall liaise with NCDC To ensure that necessary guidelines in The prevention and care of COVID19 are followed" 

"The hospital is a secondary level healthcare facility but shall have capacity for some specialized tertiary care,  Our Core Values include: we will ensure that our patients come first and will work to be trusted by them. We will treat every client with dignity and respect. Our client should expect to meet polite, friendly and helpful staff. We will give our clients timely access to healthcare" Said Okeke. 

The main hospital building consists of 2 blocks of one-storey building. It has provision for a reception, general outpatient, children's clinic, pharmacy and radiology on. It also has the administrative block as well as general and private wards, kitchen within the premises, laundry, generator house and water plant as well as the public health and eye clinics in a separate building. 

The following can be found in the hospital as outlined by the Chief  Medical Director:
1. General Outpatient Consultations. 

2. Specialist Clinics pediatrics, dental, infernal medicine, surgery, Eye etc 
3. Ante-natal, post-ngtal and obstetrics and gynaecology services. 
4. Inpatient admissions for adults and children. 
5. LaboraTory Service capable of haematology, clinical chemistry and microbiology 
6. Radiology with digital X-ray, ultrasonograghy, and mammography 
7. Preventive Health Activi‘ries immunization, health education. 
8. Accident and Emergency care. 
9. Mortuary Services To be added soon. i. Well-equipped operating Theatre. 
10. Executive Health Assessment and Life-style medicine Clinics. 

11. Cancer Screening Services. 
12. Electronic Medical Record, hospital management while telemedicine is in view.
