One of the silent areas that is very critical to security and solving crimes in this present world is the aspect of forensic studies and DNA.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai who was represented by the Army Chief of Policy and Plans, Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun stated this when he received a delegation form the university of Benin, led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami at the army headquarters, Abuja.
He said the men of the Nigerian army and other security agencies sometimes go beyond the call of duty to provide peace and security across the nation while appreciating the University for recognising the army's efforts at providing security and peace.
General Adeosun promised that the Nigerian army will continue to partner with University of Benin and all other institutions especially now that army has a university of its own in Biu which is premised on development of science and technology, adding that DNA and forensic studies will really help the security agencies in the course of their work.
"The Nigerian army will continue to partner with the University of Benin, that university also is a specialist university that is premised on research and development, DNA and forensics are part of the critical requirement in solving crimes and it is a very good thing that the University of Benin has started, we will continue to partner with you in this aspect" said Lamidi Adeosun.
Speakikg earlier, the Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Professor Lilian Salami, said the university haven't recognize the great work of the army at keeping the nation safe that enable the citizens sleep with eyes closed at night, decided to seek further partnership with the army.
She stated further that since crime is begining to take new dimension in the society, the university decided to go into Forensic and DNA studies which is the first of its kind in Nigeria.
"The University of Benin is placed in a position to partner with the security agencies and we thank you because you have deemed it necessary to empower your men in the area of DNA and Forensics studies, since crime is taking different direction in the society"
"We had a second bath of men from the army and this year we have another set undergoing this studies we appreciate your partnership and call for a Memoranda of Understanding. Most people rarely know the importance of DNA in dealing with crime, the army has taken the lead in this regard as the first security organization to go into this, we are mow looking at ballistic equipments too" said Professor Lillian.
Professor Lilian Salami is the second Female Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin and the first Indigenous Vice Chancellor.
