Victorious Military Wrestling Contingents Return to Nigeria to a Heroic Welcome


The Nigerian Military Wrestling team, that clinched Gold and Silver medals at the recently concluded 36th World Military Wrestling Championship in Azerbaijan, arrived Abuja, Nigeria's Capital and were recieved by senior military officials and proud country men. 
The team while soeaking to journalists at the Airport vowed to maintain Nigeria’s pride on the global stage though sports.
The officials from the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) were on hnad to received the triumphant wrestlers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. 
In a press briefing upon their return, Air Vice Marshall Abidemi Marquis, the Director of Sports at DHQ, expressed gratitude to General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, for providing them with the opportunity to showcase the nation’s military prowess at the international sports stage.
He highlighted the dedication, of the athletes and said their motivation stemmed from the honour of representing their fatherland. He acknowledged the essential support and resources that were provided to enable the team to compete among the world’s best.
Marquis therefore stressed the importance of leveraging the victory as a foundation for future achievements, especially with Nigeria set to host the African Military Games next year.
He alluded to the fact that sports plays a strategic role in boosting the country’s visibility, unity as wel as fostering peaceful coexistence whilw noting that the provision of necessary resources and encouragement by the CDS was instrumental to attainijg the feat.
