Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the directive on Monday, 14 September 2026, during an operational visit to the headquarters of 3 Division and Operation ENDURING PEACE, where he reviewed the security situation, ongoing operations and measures to protect vulnerable communities.
The COAS also inspected the ongoing construction of the Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Control Station, a capability expected to strengthen the Army’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capacity and provide commanders with more timely operational intelligence for decision-making.
A statement issued by Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Maxwell Dangana, briefed the COAS on ongoing operations, security arrangements and engagements with stakeholders aimed at preventing violence and promoting sustainable peace.
Lieutenant General Shaibu commended troops for their courage, professionalism and commitment to duty, urging them to remain alert, disciplined and prepared while strengthening cooperation with other security agencies, traditional authorities, community leaders and other partners in the peace process.
The Army Chief stressed that military action must complement dialogue, reconciliation and other peace-building measures, directing troops to respond firmly to security threats while maintaining professional standards and protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens.
He assured personnel that the Nigerian Army would continue to provide the necessary support for them to fulfil their constitutional responsibilities, particularly the protection of lives and property and the creation of conditions for communities to pursue their lawful livelihoods without fear.
The COAS also called on residents to provide prompt and reliable information to troops and other security agencies, emphasising that lasting peace on the Plateau requires the collective responsibility of security forces, government institutions, traditional authorities, community leaders and citizens.
