The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed has urged senior level commanders of the Nigerian Army to strengthen their preparedness towards security threats, while continuously reviewing contingency plans to ensure effective management of their security environment.
He made the call at the 2024 edition of the Second Senior Command and Leadership Seminar organised by the Army Headquarters Garrison taking at the Army Headquarters Command Officers' Mess 1, Abuja, Nigeria's Capital.
The Army Chief represented by the Director General, Nigerian Army Futuer and heritage Centre, Major General Obinna Ajunwa,said the Nigerian Army currently faces multiple security threats in highly complex and unstable geopolitical environments that commanders must keep in mind.
He called a deliberate approach to equipping Senior Level Commanders with requisite skills and competences for enhanced performance in an increasingly complex security environment while reminding the participants of the need to keep up with the complex security threats and the hybrid nature of conflicts.
"The modern warfare is no longer fought on battle fields alone, commanders must keep up with information and cyber warfare changes with focus on developing capabilities to deal with emerging security issues however complex they may be" stated COAS.
He stressed that as the Nigerian Army continues to advance into the future, senior leaders must be the catalyst of change and inculcate the type of bravery and commaradarie needed among all personnel and services.
"I urged you all to strenghten our preparedness and continously review your contingency plans to ensure effective management of your security environment" stated the Army Chief.
The Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Koko Isoni urge said the contemporary security challenges have made it imperative to have the seminar that would the commanders to being better professionals in the discharge of thier responsibilities.
He stressed that the objective of the Seminar is to consolidate on the successes of the First Senior Command and Leadership Seminar held earlier in the year and to also reinforce the primacy of the COAS' Command Philosophy in command direction.
According to the Commander, the seminar also seeks to enlighten senior commanders on the intricacies and responsibilities of command in a joint environment, while promoting critical thinking ability of senior level commanders in addressing complex operational challenges.
The second Senior Command and Leadership Seminar with the theme: 'Enhancing Operational Level Command and Leadership Within a Joint Environment' aims to promote critical thinking ability of senior level commanders in addressing complex operational challenges.
