Defence Headquarters Dismiss Terrorists Propaganda As Troops Dislodge Bandits Enclaves

Defence Headquarters in Nigeria has debunked a viral video claiming that terrorists had hijacked MRAPs from the troops. 

The Defense Headquarters in a statement on Monday 2nd September 2024 clarified that troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI deployed at Forward Operating Base Zurmi, in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State embarked on fighting patrol to dislodge terrorists gathering at Kwashabawa Village and engaged the terrorist enroute the location. 

The statement by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba said in the fight that ensued, troops while attempting to outflank the terrorists, 2 of their MRAPs got bogged down due to the swampy terrain occassioned by the rain. 

While the troops tried to extricate the MRAPs, the terrorist mass up and took advantage of the challenge encountered with the MRAPs leading to the troops dismounting and demobilzed the MRAPs. 

The sad demobilization of the MRAPs by troops was to prevent it from being useful to the terrorist after abandonment. These situations further illustrate the effect of weather in changing conditions for ground operations.

The Defence Headquarters also said its attention has been drawn to a trending video propagated from the terrorist camp depicting the killing of several civilians in a mass grave.  

The Director Defence Media Operations made it clear It must the incident never took place in Nigeria but in a nearby African country faced with terrorism. The terrorist in an act of desperation, tried to manipulate the situation to mislead gullible members of the public. 

Defence Headquarters said at no time twere 150 persons abducted in Gobir (Sokoto State) as the rumoured abduction was deliberately planted by the terrorist to undermine troops winning efforts and cover up terrorist weakness. 

On the whole, the public is urged to be circumspect of the antics of the terrorist to propagate misinformation, disinformation and fake news as part of their war propaganda effort as such situations are not uncommon in war. 

The statement by DHQ emphasised that the troops retain operational flexibility to make adjustments in achieving the strategic objective of winning the war as the dynamic and ever changing environment of war creates some of the expressions.
