The National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu says the worst human being is a policeman or a soldier who will take arms from his own formations and sell it or hide it out for the bad people to come and kill his own colleagues.
The NSA who further revealed that a sizable number of illicit weapons are originally from the government which people take and sell also emphasised that these category of people are worse than a kidnapper, worse than Boko Haram and are just pure evil.
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu was speaking at the Arms Destruction Exercise organized by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, under the office of the National Security Adviser, at the Mohammadu Buhari Cantonment Giri Abuja.
He called out countries who manufacture weapons with the aim of bringing them to the poorest parts of the world in order to make them kill their brothers and sisters, intending them for destruction of humanity.
"Shame on you. You make money, blood money, to come and kill poor people in this part of the world. Shame on you. And God will punish you. Look at how they have just destroyed our life. Look what is happening in the Sahel, what they call Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso. No part of the world that is going through what we are going through, poor people being given guns to destroy themselves"
"We have to stop it. We must fight these people. We must stop it. But also there are people, machants of death, machants of evil from outside world. You manufacture them all over and you bring it to this poor part of the world so that we kill ourselves. They are there. Shame on you"
"The only thing they bring to them is arms and weapons to kill themselves. They don't want to bring technology for us to improve our lives. And everybody is coming to sell arms to us. Shame on you. We will fight it. We will secure this country. We will work, we are not going to relent. They think we are jokers, we know what we are doing. And I can assure you with the leadership we have today in our country, with the set of people who are in charge, we have hope, just give us time. It will change" the NSA dated passionately.
Speaking further, the National Security Adviser said the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons remains a major threat to Nigeria's national security, further exacerbating issues such as insurgency, banditry and other violent crimes.
"Today's arms destruction exercise is one of several that has been conducted by the Centre in the past. The exercise is a major focus of the Centre and a decisive step in our concerted effort to address the challenge of arms proliferation"
According Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, destroying unserviceable, obsolete and recovered arms demonstrates the nation's commitment to a secure future for all Nigerians.
He commended the leadership of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, applauding the Coordinator, Retired Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo for organising the exercise and for his unwavering dedication to the mandate.
He urged all stakeholders to continue to support the efforts, remain vigilant against illegal arms trafficking towards ensuring that Nigeria remains a nation where peace and security prevail.
