10th title in 13 tournaments as Nigeria Stuns Morocco to Win 10th WAFCON Title
Nigeria pulled off a stunning second-half comeback to beat host nation Morocco 3-2 and win their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title on Saturday in Rabat.
Down 2-0 at halftime, the Super Falcons roared back with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Joe Echegini. Okoronkwo scored a penalty and set up two more as Nigeria overturned Morocco’s early lead, silencing the home crowd.
Morocco had taken control with first-half goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaâ Mssoudy, but Nigeria’s experience and resilience proved decisive in a thrilling final.
The win reinforces Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football, marking their 10th title in 13 tournaments.
