Human Rights Commission Urges Faith Leaders to Uphold Priciples of Dialogue in Communities

In order to strengthen peacebuilding mechanisms, conflict resolution strategies, and uphold human rights education among faith leaders, the National Human Rights Commission in Nigeria has called on faith leaders to promote tolerance, unity and promote interfaith dialogue within their communities. 

 

The government agency highlighted the influential role clergy members play in fostering peaceful coexistence in Nigeria’s diverse religious landscape which has been weaponized by those who do not mean well for the country. 

 

Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Dr. Tony Ojukwu told faith leaders in a meeting that their voices carry immense weight in their communities, their teachings inspire millions which can be tools for upholding dignity, compassion, and mutual respect.

 

he noted that the commission has had engagement in conflict-affected areas, such as Benue and Plateau States, condemning violence and promoting peace and mutual tolerance.
