An aircraft operated by a Siberia-based Angara Airlines carrying
more than 40 people crashed in the Amur region of Russia's far east on
Thursday, July 24, after it lost contact with air traffic control.
Reports say at approximately 1 p.m. local time, while traveling
from Blagoveshchensk on the Russian-Chinese border, to Tynda Airport, the plane
crashed leaving no survivors.
The aircraft was reported to be carrying 43 passengers and
six crew members, and other reports said there were 48 people aboard that died.
Sources say the challenging mountainous terrain made helicopters
rescue impossible as the remains engulfed in flames.
