The
Nigerian Air Force and the National Agency for Science and Engineering
Infrastructure (NASENI) have signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding to
strengthen indigenous research and defence innovation.
The agreement was signed during a visit by Air Marshal
Hasan Abubakar to NASENI headquarters in Abuja, where he met with the agency’s
Executive Vice Chairman, Khalil Suleiman Halilu.
The renewed deal aims to deepen cooperation in
aerospace development, local production of parts, and joint research in
strategic defence technologies.
Air Marshal Abubakar praised NASENI’s role in
developing the Nigerian-made C-5 aircraft rocket, calling the agency a “beacon
of hope” for national innovation.
He proposed that NASENI become co-owners
of the rocket project and highlighted progress made at the NASENI North-West
Innovation Hub in Kaduna.
NASENI’s CEO, Khalil Halilu,
reaffirmed the agency’s commitment, saying the partnership would help shift
Nigeria from import dependence to technological creation.
The move aligns with the federal
government’s focus on defence self-reliance under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
