Rabat, Morocco —
July 27, 2025
The stage is set for a historic showdown as Morocco and Nigeria clash this
Saturday at 9 p.m. local time in the final of the 13th CAF Women’s Africa Cup
of Nations at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
The
host nation is chasing its first-ever continental title, while Nigeria is
eyeing a record-extending 10th championship.
Morocco’s rise has been a standout story of the
tournament, with coach Jorge Vilda leading the Atlas Lionesses to a second
consecutive final. The Super Falcons, led by Justin Madugu, bring decades of
experience and a rich legacy to the pitch, making this one of the most
anticipated finals in the competition’s history.
The 21,000-seat stadium is expected
to be packed with home supporters eager to see Morocco lift the trophy for the
first time.
“This stadium is more than a pitch, it’s an
arena where our dreams can come to life,” said Vilda. Nigerian coach Madugu
acknowledged the challenge: “We know the stakes and the intensity of the
Moroccan crowd. But our players know how to handle finals.”
Morocco has impressed with
disciplined, tactical play and stars like captain Ghizlane Chebbak and Ibtissam
Jraidi. For the hosts, victory would signal not only a historic win but the
coming of age of women’s football in the country, boosted by federation support
and improved infrastructure.
Nigeria, already a continental
powerhouse, is determined to maintain its dominance. With a blend of youth and
experience, the Super Falcons remain a formidable force. “Our players are
motivated and ready to give their all,” said Madugu, confident his side can
handle the pressure.
Beyond the title, the final
symbolizes a broader shift in African women’s football. A Moroccan victory
would mark a new era, while a Nigerian win would reaffirm their reign. Either
way, the continent is set to witness a passionate and high-stakes encounter in
Rabat.
