The Kano State Government has launched a high-level investigation into the
alleged involvement of the Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi, in
securing bail for a suspected drug trafficker, Sulaiman Dan Wawu.
Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf ordered the probe
after reports surfaced indicating that the Commissioner’s name appeared in
official documents linked to the suspect’s controversial release. The directive
was confirmed in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi
Bature.
To ensure impartiality, the Governor
has set up a seven-member investigative committee led by Barrister Aminu
Hussain, his Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters. Hajiya
Bilkisu Maimota will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The committee has been tasked with
conducting a full inquiry into the incident and is expected to submit clear,
actionable recommendations. It is scheduled to begin work immediately.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his
administration’s zero tolerance for drug-related offenses and vowed to enforce
discipline and integrity at all levels of government. He emphasized that anyone
found complicit in undermining anti-drug efforts would face consequences.
This development comes as Kano State
continues to ramp up efforts to combat illicit drug activity, amid rising
public concern over official complicity in such crimes.
