🇳🇬 COAS Visits Oba Of Lagos, Seeks Stronger Traditional Backing For Army Operations



The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwan Akiolu I, seeking strengthened traditional support for ongoing and future military operations across Lagos State and the wider region.

The visit, which held on Thursday, 11 December 2025, was aimed at deepening the Army’s engagement with traditional institutions that play a crucial role in fostering peace, stability and community cooperation.


According to a statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS expressed profound appreciation to the royal father and the council of Obas for their consistent support to Army formations and institutions in Lagos State.





He explained that beyond appreciation, he had come to receive the blessings of the respected monarch, adding that Nigeria’s customs and traditions remain sacrosanct and must always be honoured by national institutions.


General Shaibu commended Oba Akiolu for his longstanding fatherly guidance, describing his support as invaluable to the Army’s operational activities and civil military cooperation efforts. He emphasised that traditional institutions have an important responsibility in shaping public trust and enhancing community based support for security initiatives.






In his remarks, the Oba of Lagos praised the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to protecting the nation, noting that the institution remains a critical pillar of national stability. He said the sacrifices and professionalism of Army personnel have contributed greatly to keeping the country secure.


The monarch also lauded the COAS for his leadership and dedication to strengthening peace and security across Nigeria, before offering special prayers for sustained peace in the country and for the success of Lieutenant General Shaibu’s tenure as the 25th Chief of Army Staff.






The visit reinforces the Nigerian Army’s commitment to partnering with traditional rulers as key stakeholders in Nigeria’s peace and security framework.
